An Artist-Led Studio
-
In most studios, you’re shown how to make a pot. The instructor guides you through the steps—do this, do that—and you follow. And by the end, you have a pot. But at Ceramics Sculpture Studio, you are not guided by an instructor. You are guided by a ceramicist—a working artist—who doesn’t teach from a checklist, but from a place of intuition, of emotion, of time spent suspended in the rhythm of clay.
This isn’t just about learning a technique—though you will learn that too. It’s about learning to see. To pay attention. To notice the quiet language of form and space. The curve of a pot. The tension between the handle and the body. The negative space in between. These are things an untrained eye simply cannot see.
Sometimes a piece comes out slightly off-centre, a little uneven, a little wild. And yet it holds more life, more truth, than something perfectly made. What an instructor might be tempted to “fix”—we embrace. We allow it to exist. To speak. Because sometimes, it carries your whole soul in it. Working with your hands in this way is not just physical. It’s a kind of listening. A kind of remembering. The clay responds to your energy, your silences, your hesitations. It picks up who you are—not just what you do.
What we offer is not just instruction. It’s not perfection either. It’s something much more quiet, much more honest. It’s presence. It’s connection. And in that stillness—between making and letting go—something begins to settle.
You feel it in your hands. You carry it with you. Until the next time you return to the clay. Because clay remembers. It holds onto more than shape—it holds onto feeling. It becomes something more than material. A companion—steady, grounding, and full of quiet understanding. It listens. It absorbs. It allows. And then, through fire, it becomes something eternal.
The moment you shaped with your hands—your thoughts, your gestures, your spirit— is purified. Made permanent. Frozen in time. Like the ancient vessels unearthed from forgotten soils— Neolithic forms, broken shards from distant dynasties— your piece, too, carries the memory of the one who created it. Of the moment it was born. And maybe, one day, someone will hold it.
And feel you there.

What Students Say
“This is my favourite place in West Hampstead. I started doing a six week beginners throwing course which I loved so much I did it twice! I have been doing the 9 week practice course ever since. Cosmin is an amazing ceramics teacher who is exceptionally knowledgeable and patient. If you have been thinking about taking up pottery I cannot recommend the studio enough!’’
“I have been taken classes here for almost half a year now. Cosmin has always been a great teacher. I went from a total beginner, who started from basic cylinder to being able to explore and create shapes I want. I also love the small classroom setting here, in which every student can get good amount of guidance and attention so they can improve more quickly.’’
“Cosmin brings incredible warmth, charm and humour to his fabulous pottery classes. We had a mixed class of total novices (me) through to artists (definitely not me!) and we all produced work we could be proud of and use at home. Highly recommend’’
